Our name, pronounced eel--joy-ello, literally
means "the jewel" in Italian. This exactly describes to us what
we think of our winery: a small, precious jewel. It was also the name of
Galileo's estate in Arcetri, Tuscany where he was placed under house arrest.
Intrigued? We would love to have to visit us to find out more about the name, and
why we chose it.
When the winery first began, all of our wines were produced under the Il Gioiello label. Beginning with the 2006 vintage, we are marketing our Italian varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandels, and Super Tuscan under this label, and our Rhones under the new Morse label.
Our
estate-grown Italian varietals include Aglianico, Barbera, Montepulciano and Sangiovese. We also grow our Zinfandels and Cabernet Franc on the estate.
Our first Super Tuscan was blended in 2007, using the name "Triumphe." It is a blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Franc, both from the estate. This is our signature wine, and we are very excited about releasing this first vintage in November 2009.
